Situated on the outskirts of the city of Palma, a former fishing village and one of the several suburbs of Palma, Portixol with its pristine blue waters draws tourists from all over the world and has been recently rejuvenated for both locals and tourists.
Contemporary bars, cafes and restaurants line the sea front. The ring road behind Portixol and one way system in the village itself has kept motorized traffic to a minimum and most people tend to cycle, skate or run along the seafront where a number of cafes and bars offer an ideal place for those who prefer to take it easy.
The small beach in the bay is far calmer and more sheltered than the huge, neighboring Playa de Palma beach to the east. A larger beach can be found at Can Pere Antoni, towards Palma on the other side of the harbor. This is where you will find Nassau Beach Club. You can head the other way, east to Ciutat Jardi for a longer stretch of sand.
The biggest attraction here is the charming promenade which stretches along 16 kilometers connecting Portixol and Es Molinar on one side and El Arenal on the other. Cars get queued up for parking and people compete to get their favorite restaurant tables.
Playa De Palma is one of the most sought after beaches which is comparatively smaller in size. Can Pere Antoni, towards Palma on the other side of the harbor is a larger beach - home to the famed Nassau Beach Club.You can head the other way, east to Ciutat Jardi for a longer stretch of sand.
Roller-blading, skate-boarding and cycling along the beach are just some of the activities you could explore.
