Situated in the southwest of Majorca, Portal Vells consists of just a handful of buildings and is surrounded by forest all around. It is 20 kilometers from Palma the capital of the island. Santa Ponsa and Magaluf can be reached from here by car in around quarter of an hour.

In the summer months people come to visit this little beach. At that time of year numerous boats, including excursion boats, anchor in the bay, bringing even more visitors with them. You can rent sun loungers and umbrellas or just make yourself comfortable on your own towel. There is a large chiringuito with fish dishes and other dishes typical of the region on the menu.

By traversing the flat rocks edging the sandy bay you can reach the smaller bays nearby, where there are several caves to be explored. When snorkeling underwater you may stumble upon one or more of several small mussel reefs. There are three main beaches of Portal-Vells

First and southernmost beach is the Sa Caleta, surrounded by a lush pine forest. Small snacks and refreshments are offered. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available on all three beaches. The second and smallest beach is called El Mago or Platja del Mago.

The 20-meter-long sand beach was already a turning point for a film and is therefore very well-known. A nice little restaurant invites you to lunch. It is worth mentioning that it is the first nudist beach in Majorca. If you do not belong to the nudist, you should try one of the two other beaches.

Above the El Mago you follow the path over a small staircase and reach the beach Platja del Rei after a few minutes. The adjacent restaurant attracts numerous yacht owners, who cannot miss their anchor in the Cala de Portals Vells.

During summer months the beaches are crowded with people. The dreamlike turquoise blue water is perfect for snorkeling and for adventure lovers it is worth to swim to the opposite caves. The ascent is made difficult by the rocks, but pays off.
