Ironman 2016 – Are you tough enough?
The island of Mallorca attracts a wealth of athletes throughout the year who are drawn to our magical isle because of its fabulous mountain roads, perfect for cyclists training for big events such as the Tour de France and also for triathletes as conditions both at sea and by road are perfect for all 3 events.
The town of Alcudia is very proud to boast Mallorcas perfect training grounds by playing host to the annual Ironman competition. The setting is incredible with awesome scenes along the way, but the competition is fierce and the course gruelling. This is an enormous test of fitness and stamina and it attracts participants from all over Europe hoping to qualify in the top 40 so that they will make it through to the world championship which this year will be held in Hawaii.
The main challenge takes place on September 24th and will comprise of a 1.9km swim, 90km cycle race and finished off with a 21.1km run and believe me this is no mean feat in temperatures which normally still remain in the high 20’s at that time of year!
For all young budding Iron Kids out there, there is also a children competition which takes place the previous day comprising of a beach fun run with varying distances according to their age.
The Port and town of Alcudia is simply buzzing at competition time and this is a great time to visit and enjoy all the attractions and of course to cheer on the challengers for the very demanding day ahead of them.
Are you tough enough to take the challenge? You can register for this up until 18 September by the following link:
